Ocean View Hotel - Then

A stylish hotel was constructed on McAbee Beach in 1927 by the Wu family, on the former site of Cannery Row's second Chinatown. The beach's Chinese residents had disbursed, many to an oriental quarter in downtown Monterey. The tiled 'dragon roof' of the Ocean View Hotel replaced the Chinese Monterey Fishing & Canning Company as the new standard on the Beach. The Spindrift Inn now serves Cannery Row's return to its earlier elegance as one of the Monterey Peninsula's award winning inns, located on the site of Wu's Ocean View Hotel.
