It was the sardine that sparked Cannery Row's development in the early 1900s, and fishing boats on the Monterey Bay still haul in the silvery treat today. However, the sea harvest here includes an assortment of fish from other schools, as well – including salmon, squid, rock cod, anchovies and albacore tuna. Local restaurateurs incorporate each day's catch into tantalizing dishes that range from casual budget friendly fish and chips to sophisticated seafood creations.
